Ceremony at a Historic Charleston Church

The ceremony was held at Redeemer Presbyterian Church, one of the city’s oldest and most iconic sanctuaries. Its towering white columns and deep red lacquered doors made for a striking backdrop, softened by wisps of smilax draped across the gates and entry. The effect felt both romantic and overgrown, as if the greenery had always belonged there. Passersby paused to offer friendly hellos as we worked, a sweet reminder of Charleston’s hospitality and charm.

Inside, the sanctuary needed little embellishment. Stained glass windows glowed in the afternoon light, and the pews and pipe organ spoke to centuries of history. As the organist practiced, his angelic music filled the church while we set up, making the space feel all the more sacred and timeless. The design remained simple here, honoring the beauty and character of the church itself, letting its history shine through.

One of the most memorable moments came just after the ceremony—the couple rang the church bell together, their joy echoing out across downtown Charleston. The sound spilled into the streets like a proclamation of love, drawing smiles from those nearby. It was such a timeless, celebratory gesture, and the perfect start to their new chapter.

Florals in Sunset Tones

The bride carried a bouquet inspired by the colors of a Charleston sunset—peach, blush, and warm pinks with pops of her favorite shade: yellow. The palette radiated joy while staying elegant and timeless, perfectly complementing the classic backdrop of the church.

Reception on King Street

The celebration continued at Union Station on bustling King Street, where history gave way to a modern industrial canvas. Guests spilled into the open space, filling it with laughter, music, and life.

Designing the reception was such a joy—the flowers brought warmth and color into the space while the energy of the city poured in from outside. Guests danced late into the night, their joy carrying into the Charleston air. In between the festivities, I wandered downtown for a scoop of ice cream, soaking in the glow of King Street while the celebration carried on.

This wedding felt like the perfect pairing of old and new—historic Charleston charm balanced with a modern, vibrant reception. Most of all, it was the couple’s joy and the warmth of their guests that made it unforgettable.
